What Does it mean to be an Adventure Student?

To be an AdVENTURE student is to explore, discover, and grow.  There is no limit to the creativity and resources that each student has access to use to create amazing outcomes.  Over the past four years, I have learned that I can accomplish nearly anything with the right determination and hard work.  So what does it really mean to be an Adventure student?  For me, it means working harder than I ever have in my life, not for a grade, but to discover and show what I can do.  Along the way, I have learned so much and it has been 100% worth it for all of the extra work that I have done.

Even in the four years that I have been here, AdVENTURE has already changed so much from when I was in fifth grade.  The projects get bigger and more complex every year, involving more subjects/classes and often last longer.  Being an AdVENTURE student means to work as a team with your classmates and occasionally students from other grade levels to solve problems and create amazing products.  These products can be a model, video, poster, or artifact, and often require a presentation to follow it.  Also, there are lots of projects that are split up into several classes such as the Urban Village end of the year project and the Charity Fair.  In these projects, we work on different parts that are related to several subjects that all come together into one huge finished product.

Being an AdVENTURE student means presenting after almost every project.  I have learned to enjoy presenting and make the most out of it to enhance the project and make it seem more complete.  By presenting a project, it makes your work seem like it was worth more than just a grade since you are sharing your product to the class.  Over the past four years, I have been constantly improving my presentation skills and now feel confident when presenting and love how I can put my own personality into any project through it.

As an Eighth grader, I can look back on my past four years at this school and see very clearly how much I have grown as a writer, student, and person all together.  The best part of AdVENTURE is definitely that I was able to build great friendships with all of the other awesome eighth graders in my class.  Being an AdVENTURE student is being part of a tight, friendly, and caring community where everyone has a place; It is knowing that you have amazing friends and teachers who will support you through your learning and time at the program.
